Where Doorcount's data comes from, and how to opt out

Doorcount tells wholesale brands which independent retailers already stock their competitors. This page says exactly what we collect, how, and how to be removed.

What we read

Only what a store already publishes to every visitor. For each independent retailer's website we read the public product catalogue: product titles, the brand (vendor) name on each product, product type, prices, and the dates products were published. That is all.

We do not read customer data, orders, accounts, carts, checkout pages, or anything behind a login. We never log in. We do not collect the names or personal email addresses of store owners or staff. Where we list a contact for a store, it is the public business mailbox or phone number printed on the store's own contact page.

How we read it

CrawlerUser agent Doorcount/1.0 (polite catalogue crawl; 1 request per second; https://doorcount.co/data)
RateAt most one request per second per store, a few hundred requests per store per week.
robots.txtHonoured on every run. A store that disallows the catalogue path is skipped.
IdentificationEvery request is signed under the Web Bot Auth standard. Our public key is at /.well-known/http-message-signatures-directory on this domain.
RefreshWeekly.
RetentionCatalogue facts are kept as a time series (which brands a store carried, and when). Nothing else.

What we sell

A brand pays for the list of stores that carry a named competitor and do not carry the brand, with each store's public business contact. We never sell a brand its competitor's stockist list as a product. Any brand can ask for its own door count free of charge.

Opt out

If you run a store and don't want to be included, email doorcount.co@gmail.com with your store's web address. We stop reading the store at the next run and remove it from every report issued after the request, within two business days, and keep it on a do-not-crawl list permanently. No reason needed, no questions asked.

If you are a brand and want your name removed from our product, the same address works the same way.

Privacy notice

Doorcount collects business information about retail stores. If any information we hold could identify you as an individual, you have the right to know what it is, to have it deleted, and to opt out of its sale. Email the address above and we will respond within 10 business days. We do not sell personal information. California residents may exercise their rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act by the same route.

Email

We send commercial email to brands and, on a brand's behalf, to stores. Every message carries our postal address and a working opt-out; "stop" in a reply is enough and is honoured within 10 business days, usually the same day.
